A Guide to Post-Surgery Therapist Recommended Back Exercises
Having a surgery disrupts the normality of life and daily activities. Even after the success, the normal dimension of the surgery undergone part is not fully restored. Back is the commonly affected part of the entire body which has to bear the upcoming complications. There are a number of recommended
back exercises which are advised to be followed. After surgeries on the knee, leg, hip (excluding hip replacement) upper body (excluding hands), an interval of surgeon or therapist recommended days is needed.
Immediate next step:
Contact your physiotherapist before starting your routine and or continuing with prior exercises. The therapist will know what is best for you.
Recommended back exercises post surgeries:
Instructions:
- The patient needs to lie down in the supine position, with hands on stomach, knees bent and continued normal breathing.
- The hip needs to be pushed downwards by flattening the back and pulling belly towards and inwards in proportion to spine.
Instructions:
- The patient lies down at the supine position, with knee bent and hand stretched towards the knee.
- The upper body is lifted upwards, keeping the same position intact, by bending the hip only.
- Normal breathing is followed.
Instructions:
- The patient lies down in supine, knee bent and hand placed on the sides.
- The flexed hip is then moved (without further bending the already bent knee) and brought towards the chest.
- Normal breathing is followed.
What patient should remember is that these exercises can be followed later as a daily routine.
Back exercises are beneficial for daily back care, as most old age problems start there. But consulting a therapist is of importance after the surgery time period.
